CoMVPs (L to R) Haylee Parkinson, Alyssa
Selve, Tommy Mc Guan & Anthony Pizzo.

"We see so many acts of kindness. From the gentleman who walked through our back door to make a donation, his 4-year-old son carrying a grocery bag almost as big as he was, to Shaina Katz, the 16-year-old who planned her "sweet 16" birthday party since the age of 9. Shaina is such an inspiration to us all, asking her friends not to bring gifts for her but to donate grocery cards to the Santa Clarita Valley Food Pantry."  See full Articla  on the Food Pantry in the Signal

A great time was had by all today at the SCV Invite. We had 1570 runners complete
the 2.97 mile course under near perfect conditions. The temperatures were in the 70s
and we even had a brief rain shower just before race time to cut down the dust on the
dirt trails of the course, clean air, and no smoke from the recent fires.  You may
recall, our meet was cancelled in 2006 due to fire and last year, many teams could
not make it due to the fire in the tunnel on the 5 freeway.  Thank you to all the
Canyon Parents for all your help.  Especially, the Saunder's for providing the
electricity, Steve Gold, Kathy Kennedy-Gold and Rick Deluca for help with Hytek and timing the meet. Steve Low, The Gonzales family, The Goffs for helping set
up and for all the parents who manned the Concession Tables, The finish crew,
and the Traffic Crew. We could not have done this meet without you.

Highlights:
Arcadia Boys dominated the Large Schools race winning with 25 points, followed
by Knight (90) and Canyon 3rd with 112 points. Tommy Mc Guan was our first finisher (8th in 15:50) followd by Michel Noris (13th 16:28),
Mason Bouchet
(22nd 16:51) Joe Pineda (37th 17:07) and Chris Bissonette
(43rd 17:15).  Anthony Pizzo (Achilles Tendonitis) and Timmy Gonzales
(sore knee) were unable to  finish the race.

Canyon Girls 1st! won the Girls Varsity Race over Highland but it was as close
as it gets. Both teams scored 50 points, but Canyon's 5th girl placed 16th, while
Highlands was 32nd. so, Canyon wins the tiebreaker. (using the 5th girl tie-breaker)
the Girls Varsity with 50 points, followed by Highland (50) and Taft (92).
Hayley Parkinson (4th 18:52) and Jessica Gatton (5th 19:03) led the way,
followed by Alyssa Selve (12th 19:45), Gillian Lopez (13th 19:48) and our
deciding 5th runner was Devon Goff (16th 19:54).  Our 6th and 7th girls were
also key, as they both beat Highland's 5th runner.  They were Elvia Contreras
(25th 20:16) and Marissa Telles (27th 20:18).

Canyon JV Girls 1st! won the Girls Junior Varsity Race with 35 Points
to Knight's 48 pts. and Moorpark's 62. Hannah Fillas (2nd 19:55) and Kaitlyn Mahotz
(3rd 20:43) led the charge.

Canyon Boys JV 2nd took 2nd in the Boys JV race behind winner Arcadia
(15 pts) We had 44 points.  Matt Gavin (6th 17:21), Tim Snow (7th 17:23), Chris Cruz
(9th 17:39), Paul Estrada (10th 17:42) and James Rutherford (12th 17:48) scored.

Canyon Boys FS 2nd took 2nd in the Boys Frosh/Soph race. James Snow
led the way with a 17:04.
